§ 69. Mr. R. YOUNGasked the Minister of Transport whether he now or in the near future contemplates drafting Rules and Regulations regarding the design of passenger-carrying vehicles, especially in relation to emergency doors, lighting, etc., whereby passengers using these vehicles in country districts may travel in greater safety; and whether such rules and regulations will tend toward a more uniform type of vehicle?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI have at present no adequate powers to make regulations of the kind indicated in the question. The whole question of the regulation of public service vehicles has been most carefully investigated by a Departmental Committee, and I propose to seek additional powers in the Road Vehicles Bill which was referred to in the Gracious Speech from the Throne, and which I hope before long to have an opportunity of presenting to the House.
§ Major WHELERAre we to take it that the right hon. Gentleman has no power to limit the increasing size of vehicles?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI have no power myself. In the Metropolis the Commissioner of Police has power, but apart from that I have none.
