Major CRAWFURDasked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that considerable hardship is sometimes caused to recipients of State scholarships by the payment of the terminal instalment in the middle instead of at the beginning of the term; and whether he will consider the desirability of altering the existing practice in this matter?
§ Lord E. PERCYThe terminal instalments of the Board's grants for maintenance are normally paid to State scholars in November, February and June. I have no reason to think that any particular hardship is caused by the existing practice, but if the hon. Member will furnish me with particulars of any cases in which he considers that hardship has arisen, I will certainly cause inquiries to be made and consider the matter further.
