HC Deb 12 March 1925 vol 181 cc1506-7
62. Viscountess ASTOR

asked the Minister of Health the total amount of the loans granted up to the present date to assist the development of the Welwyn garden city; under which Acts loans are being granted to the Welwyn Public Utility Society; and what are the other public utility societies that are using the facilities offered by Section 5 of the 1923 Act?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am informed that the total amount of the loans advanced up to the present by the Public Works Loan Commissioners to the Welwyn Garden City Company is £234,970. The Welwyn Rural District Council has been authorised to advance loans to the Welwyn Public Utility Society under Section 5 of the Housing, Etc., Act, 1923. My Department is not necessarily informed by local authorities of the names of societies and others to whom advances are made under that section, and information is not available which would enable me to answer the last part of the question.
