HC Deb 11 March 1925 vol 181 c1296
11. Captain GARRO-JONES

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can communicate to the House the date and terms of the reply of the French Government to the last British Note regarding the French debt to Great Britain?

Mr. McNEILL

No official reply has yet been received from the French Government.

80. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has any further information to give the House with regard to any suggested date for the commencement of the payment of the Italian debt to this country?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Guinness)

No, Sir. I fear I can add nothing at present to the reply given by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the 24th February to the hon. and gallant Member for South Hackney.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

That was in reference to another country. Seeing that the country is enormously interested in that question, can the hon. Gentleman not hold out any hope of giving any information on it?

Mr. GUINNESS

The hon. Member is misinformed. If he will look at the question he will see that it refers specifically to Italy.

Mr. WALLHEAD

Does that prevent the Italian Government paying their debts?
