HC Deb 09 March 1925 vol 181 cc919-20
34. Commander WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he has any information about the recent variations of the oceanic currents, the alterations of their salinity and temperature, and the effects on our fisheries?

Mr. WOOD

So far as I am aware no peculiar hydrographical effects have recently occurred in British waters. The subjects referred to are continuously studied by the scientific staffs of the Fisheries Department, of the Fishery Board for Scotland and of the Marine Biological Association at Plymouth as part of the broad programme of research laid down by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, and carried out jointly by the Governments which support it. An account of the scientific work of the Fisheries Department will be found in the Report on Sea Fisheries just issued, and in the scientific reports therein referred to.
