Mr. JOHNSTONasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that British Government representatives objected to the projected railway development in the provinces of Hunan and Hupeh on the ground that British nationals held preferential con cessions from the late Viceroy, Chang Chih Tung, and if he can state the nature of these concessions and the considerations for which they were given?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am unable to trace the incident to which the hon. Mem- 2000 ber refers, but if he will give me the date and any other particulars in his possession, I will look into the matter.
