HC Deb 29 June 1925 vol 185 cc2003-4
54. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Prime Minister when he anticipates receiving the first interim Report of the Balfour Committee on Trade and Industry?

Mr. SAMUEL

I have been asked to reply. I am informed that a1 first volume, entitled "Surveys of Overseas Markets," is about to be published. The volume is based on material furnished to the Committee from official sources, with an introduction by the Committee. It will not contain the Committee's recommendations, as they cannot be formulated until the Committee are able to consider the effect of the evidence as a whole. The Committee have received by now most of the evidence they propose to take, but the representatives of certain important organisations remain to be heard.

Mr. WILLIAMS

In view of the present condition of trade, will the hon. Gentleman press the Committee to make recommendations at an early date, so that they will be available for His Majesty's Government?

Mr. SAMUEL

Yes, Sir.
