HC Deb 29 June 1925 vol 185 cc2002-3
69. Mr. MacLAREN

asked the Minister of Health the number of acres of land to be acquired by the Stoke-on-Trent Corporation for their housing scheme at Abbey Hulton; and if he can state the present rateable value of this land and the price demanded by present owners?

Sir K. WOOD

The area of the land proposed to be acquired by the Stoke-on-Trent Corporation at Abbey Hulton is 39.376 acres. My right hon. Friend is unable to furnish the hon. Member with the information asked for in the second part of the question, but will communicate with the authority and let the hon. Member know the result of his inquiries.

Mr. W. THORNE

Is it not a fact that it is not a question of the high price of land that has caused the jumps up of the rent, but that it is the interest they have to pay on the loans?

Lieut.-Colonel J. WARD

Would it not be possible for the Member representing the City of Stoke-upon-Trent to obtain the information from the Town Clerk if he wished for it?
