§ 50. Mr. BOOTHBYasked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government has reached a decision with regard to the status of the Secretary for Scotland?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave on the 25th March in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for the Maryhill division of Glasgow (Mr. Couper).
§ Mr. BOOTHBYIn view of the very great interest which is taken in Scotland in this question, may I ask the Prime Minister whether he thinks he will be in a position to announce the decision of the Government before the end of the present Session?
§ The PRIME MINISTEROh, certainly; I have given an undertaking to that effect.
§ Mr. MAXTONIn considering this matter, will the right hon. Gentleman recognise that public opinion in Scotland will be fully satisfied with a rise in status without any rise in the emoluments?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAn explicit statement was made last time I answered this question.
