§ 41. Mr. MARCHasked the Minister of Labour the numbers of men, women, boys and girls living and registering on the Employment Exchanges in the Poplar district during the month of March, 1922, 1923, 1924, and 1925, respectively?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the numbers of men, women, boys and girls registered at the Poplar Employment Exchange at the end of March in each of the years mentioned. It may be assumed that practically all these persons were resident in the area of the Exchange, which includes the Limehouse area and portions of Hackney. Stratford and Canning Town.
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI think not.
§ Mr. MARCHYes, I think so. Will the Minister consider the number of our people who are living on the Island who have to go to Greenwich or Deptford to sign on?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDPerhaps the hon. Member will put down a question of detail like that.
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDWill the hon. Member communicate with me, or put a question down on that additional point, which is rather one of detail?
§ Mr. J. JONESWill the Minister consider the fact that in one of the biggest industrial centres in the East End of London, the Silvertown district, which I represent, the people have to go to Poplar to sign on, and they are all included in the Poplar area when it comes to a question of administration? I say it is a disgrace.
