HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 cc418-9
36. Mr. W. BAKER

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether it is proposed to reduce the rates of pay for men joining the Air Force; and whether, before any reduction of the pay of men in the Air Force is made, an opportunity will be afforded the House to express an opinion for or against any proposed lowering of the pay?

The SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Samuel Hoare)

As regards the first part of the question, proposals involving reduced rates of pay for airmen as for other men of the fighting services are under consideration, but no decision has yet been reached. As regards the second part, this is a matter of the arrangement of business of the House, which, as the hon. Member is aware, does not rest with me.

Captain BRASS

May I ask how the pay before the War compares with the present pay?

Sir S. HOARE

There was not any pay before the War, because the Air Ministry did not exist then.

Captain BRASS

What was the pay in the Royal Flying Corps?

Sir S. HOARE

If the hon. and gallant Member will put a question to the Secretary of State for War and myself on this subject, I think we can give him an answer.
