HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 cc409-10
17. Major HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Admiralty have taken any steps to impress upon other Government Departments requiring stores, which are either in stock in, or could be supplied by, the Royal Dockyards, that such stores should be obtained, wherever possible, from the dockyards rather than from outside contractors?

Mr. DAVIDSON

Other Government Departments are furnished periodically with a priced catalogue of naval stores used in the Naval Service and kept informed from time to time of changes in prices and descriptions. Further, particulars as to surplus stocks are circulated to other Government Departments which it is considered might be interested before such stores are disposed of by sale. The attention of Departments is specially called to articles manufactured in the dockyards, such as cordage, with a view to supplies being made from dockyard stocks in preference to private sources.

Major HORE-BELISHA

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that the other Departments do make full use of the information?

Mr. DAVIDSON

Well, they have all the information before them.
