HC Deb 27 July 1925 vol 187 c25
44. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if any representations have been received from the Government of Afghanistan regarding the construction of the railway through the Khyber Pass; and, if so, what is the nature of these?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Some representations were received two or three years ago to the effect that misgivings were felt in Afghanistan as to the object of the railway. I hope that any such misgivings have since been removed by a realisation of the fact that its construction implies no motive inimical to Afghanistan but should, on the other hand, be a source of advantage to that country.

Mr. THURTLE

May I take it that no more recent representations have been received than those referred to by the right hon. Gentleman?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I think that that is so.
