HC Deb 23 July 1925 vol 186 c2387
21. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Home Secretary the number of aliens who have been deported or repatriated since the beginning of the year and also the cost of such action and by whom this cost is defrayed?

Sir W. JOYNSON-H1CKS

I he number of aliens whose removal was effected by means of deportation orders from 1st January to 30th June was 128, The cost incurred in respect of these particular individuals cannot be given at present, as some of the later accounts are not yet to hand: but the expenditure under this head for the six months in question was, approximately, £800. Where possible, the cost of deportation is defrayed from any money in the alien's possession, and the figure I have given represents the balance paid from public funds. In addition to the 128 deported, there were 1,281 aliens refused leave to land and taken away by the shipping company responsible for bringing them.
