HC Deb 22 July 1925 vol 186 c2203
66. Mr. HURD

asked the Secretary of State for War why his Department is issuing to artillery officers service stop watches which are stamped made in Switzerland; and whether he will carry out the Government's policy of administrative preference for British Empire goods?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

No purchase of stop-watches has been made by the Department since the War, and the issues referred to have been made from stock purchased during the War, some of which was necessarily of foreign manufacture. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.

Mr. HURD

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether any steps are being taken to replace these watches by British British watches?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Of course, they will be replaced by British watches when the stock is exhausted.

Mr. HURD

What is the stock?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

I must have notice of that question.

Mr. HARRIS

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider making a Chinese wall round this country, and letting nothing in?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

No, Sir.
