HC Deb 22 July 1925 vol 186 cc2207-8
76. Mr. ERSKINE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the new motor regulations in Rhode Island, United States of America, whereby 35 miles an hour or get-off-the-road is a new order to be enforced; and whether ho can see his way to allow of a speed-up on certain arterial roads, especially the Great North Road, on sections to be approved, in order to meet present-day conditions?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part, before I could take any steps of the nature suggested, it would be necessary for me to ask Parliament to repeal Section 9 of the Motor Car Act, 1903.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

I refer to a statement made in July.
