asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the cost of the Residency in Cairo, including the officials, in 1913–14 and in 1925–26?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The cost of the Residency in Cairo in 1913–14, including the officials, was £12,261. The cost of the staff in 1925–26 is estimated at £27,287, while incidental expenses, including the maintenance of the house occupied by the High Commissioner, for 1924–25, the last-period for which figures are available, was £6,322. The above figures do not include capital expenditure of £3,395 in 1913–14 and £9,435 in 1924–25.
