§ 7. Mr. THURTLEasked the Undersecretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the summary of the speech of the Secretary of State for India in the House of Lords on 7th July, which appeared in the "Statesman" newspaper of Calcutta on 20th June; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter?
§ Earl WINTERTONIf the hon. Member had done my Noble Friend the honour of reading his speech of the 7th July in another place, I can hardly believe that he would have made the suggestion 1798 conveyed in the first part of the question. The answer to the second is in the negative.
§ Mr. THURTLEIs the Under-Secretary aware that this forecast was published nearly a month before the statement made in another place, and that it detailed every important passage of that statement?
§ Earl WINTERTONThe hon. Gentleman will recognise that prophecies, although seldom, are sometimes accurate.
