HC Deb 20 July 1925 vol 186 c1804
15. Mr. ALBERY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Australian Commonwealth Government will shortly introduce in the Australian Parliament proposals with a view to improving the tariff preference at present enjoyed by British manufacturers; and if he can state that it is the definite policy of His Majesty's Government to encourage such Dominion legislation by seeking every available opportunity for taking action of a reciprocal nature?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part, I can assure my hon. Friend that His Majesty's Government will do its utmost to carry out the policy embodied in Resolution XXI of the Imperial War Conference, 1917.

Captain WEDGWOOD BENN

Does that mean that the Government can review further tariff preferences?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

That does not arise out of this question.
