40. Captain CROOKSHANKasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that there is now a representative of the Canadian Department of External Affairs in Washington, he will consider attaching him officially to the staff of His Majesty's Ambassador, in order that he may receive diplomatic status and be granted full diplomatic privileges just as if he were 1817 a member of the British Foreign Office; and, if not, whether he will state the reasons which would prevent such an arrangement?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINAny proposals on this subject should come from the Canadian Government. It is not for His Majesty's Government to take the initiative.
