Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe proposals of the town council for the erection of houses on the site referred to were approved on the 6th April last. I understand that some difficulty has arisen between the contractor and the corporation as to the terms of the contract, and I have arranged a conference with the parties.
Mr. CHAMBERLAINNo, Sir; I understand the delay is due to a difficulty between the contractor and the corporation.
§ Mr. SHORTCan the right hon. Gentleman say, if it is not due to his Depart- 1523 merit, why it is necessary for him to interfere?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI do not know that it is necessary, but I am using my good offices to try to overcome the difficulty.
