§ Mr. MONTAGUEIs it the fact that the representatives of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation made a statement yesterday, and why should not the re-rollers be heard?
§ Sir B. CHADWICKI do not know of any such statement to the Cabinet Committee as is indicated by the hon. Member, and if I did I could not say anything about it.
§ 46. Major CRAWFURD forasked the Prime Minister whether the speech of the Home Secretary at Dudley on 8th July, in which he advocated a protective duty upon iron and steel, represents the considered view of the Government?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI have seen a report of my right hon. Friend's speech, and cannot accept the interpretation of 1284 the hon. and gallant Member, move especially as the Home Secretary specifically stated in the course of his speech that he must not be taken as indicating that the Conservative Government was going to put a protective tariff on iron and steel or anything else that comes into this country.
