§ 40. Dr. SALTERasked the Minister of Transport whether a public inquiry is to be held as to the advisability of constructing a tube railway in South-east London; if so, when such inquiry is likely to take place and by whom the inquiry will be held; and whether the local authorities of the South London boroughs will be permitted to give evidence?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThe answer to the first part of the question is, so far as I am aware, in the negative. I may, however, explain that I have referred to the London Traffic Advisory Committee, for 1065 their advice and report, questions relating to the alleged inadequacy of passenger-travelling facilities in certain districts of London, including the South-eastern district. The Committee inform me that they propose to hold public inquiries in connection with these questions, and that they will afford every opportunity to the local authorities concerned to present their views on the questions involved.
§ Dr. SALTERI take it that this inquiry will not be under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport?
