HC Deb 13 July 1925 vol 186 c859
63. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on the assumption that the Bank of England note issue and the currency note issue had been combined, what was the total note issue and the value of gold held on the dale on which the gold standard was restored, and on the latest date for which the figures are available?

Mr. GUINNESS

The combined figures for the Bank of England Issue Department and the Currency Note Account are:

29th April, 1925. 8th July, 1925.
£ £
Total notes issued 408,212,500 418,850,496
Gold held 153,906,315 157,047,415

Mr. WILLIAMS

Has there been an expansion of credit since the restoration of the gold standard?

Mr. GUINNESS

I should like to have notice of that question.
