HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 cc577-8
1. Colonel DAY

asked the Minister of Pensions under what authority his Department, through the pension issue office or area offices, orders stoppages to be made from pensions, or from treatment allowances, payable in lieu of pensions, to men undergoing in-patient treatment?

The MINISTER of PENSIONS (Major Tryon)

In a few cases it is necessary to recover current overpayments or to cover wilful damage or loss caused by patients to clothing or other articles, where no reasonable explanation can be given. Recovery is made under Article 6 of the Royal Warrant and Article 8 of the Pay Warrant of 1914.

Colonel DAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman say what authority his Department has to make this large deduction from pensions which are statutory?

Major TRYON

The authority is under Article 6 of the Royal Warrant and Article 8 of the Pay Warrant, 1914.
