HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 c582
16. Captain BRASS

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the fact that fines amounting to £2,657 have been imposed on motorists by the magistrates at Oxted, in Surrey, in the last six months as a result of police controls operated by the Metropolitan Police in that area; and whether, in view of this evidence that the present police methods do not in any way prevent fast driving, he will consider the advisability of other methods being adopted by the Metropolitan Police, having the object of the prevention of fast driving in that area in view?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The total fines imposed on motorists by the magistrates at Oxted during the six months ending the 8th July in respect of all motoring offences brought before them from the Metropolitan Police district was not £2,657, hut £30. With regard to the last paragraph of the question, the matter is still being considered by the police.
