HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 cc594-5
47. Lieut. -Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the increasing congestion of Parliamentary business; and whether he intends to make any proposal for altering the date of the commencement of a normal Session, or any other measures, to enable more business to be accomplished?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

While I am aware of the strain imposed upon Members caused by the important Measures at present before the House, I do not believe that Parliamentary business is more congested this Session than has been the case in recent years.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that, although it has been bad for a number of years, a great deal of very useful legislation is not proceeded with by successive Governments owing to lack of time? Cannot he do something about it?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think that the House is passing as much legislation as it can digest this year. I have done my best to provide the House with it.
