§ 64. Mr. SPENCER forasked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that on a farm at Rugby, adjoining the one on which an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease occurred on 7th May last, the herd was treated by Mr. Kew, of Morecambe, with his specific against this disease as a preventive measure, and that satisfactory results were obtained, no disease spreading to this herd; and will he now give Me. Kew the opportunity of demonstrating his treatment free of cost to the Ministry?
§ Sir H. BARNSTONMy right hon. Friend is informed that by the time the owner of the neighbouring herd could make arrangements with Mr. Kew to treat his animals, disinfection of the infected premises had been completed, and the 604 disease had ceased to exist. The fact that the disease did not spread to the neighbouring farm cannot, therefore, be attributed to the use of Mr. Kew's specific. My right hon. Friend cannot see his way to adopt the suggestion in the last part of the question.
§ Mr. SPENCERDo the Ministry of Agriculture intend to give every opportunity for the testing of these specifics, which claim to be preventives of the disease?
§ Sir H. BARNSTONI will bring that question to the notice of my right hon. Friend.
