HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 c600
56. Mr. HAYES

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can now state how he proposes to dispose of the balance in hand of the £5,000,000 and £300,000 funds for reparation claims, including belated claims; and whether in out-of-time claims, when good cause for being out of time can be shown, a further supplementary grant or; account of reparations' received or to be received can be made?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The payment of the sums recommended by the Sumner Commission and of the awards under the scheme for belated claims is not yet completed, and it is, therefore, impossible to say whether the maximum limits of £5,000,000 and £300,000 respectively will in fact be reached. In any case I can hold out no hope of Parliament being asked to provide funds for any further supplementary grant.

Mr. HAYES

If the figure voted by Parliament is not reached, will the surplus be utilised for the payment of claims already submitted?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I think that my answer covers the point so far as I am able to do so to-day.
