asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the amount of sterling purchsed by the Government of India in India for the first six months of the current year as compared with the similar period for 1924, and the average level of the rupee during the same period in each year?

The total remittances to the home Treasury were £11,747,500 and £10,902,200 in the first half of 1925 and 1924, of which purchases of sterling represented £9,096,000 and £10,280,000, respectively. The average rates of exchange in London for telegraphic transfers on Calcutta during the same periods were 1s. 5 31/32d. and 3s. 4 15/16d.
