§ 45. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYasked the Prime Minister when the Report of the Cabinet Committee on Naval Shipbuilding will be ready; and when an announcement as to the Government's decision will be made to the House?
§ Mr. A. CHAMBERLAINI can add nothing to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister, in reply to a question by the hon. Member for Bradford East on the 17th June.
§ Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYMay I ask whether it is expected that this Report will be ready by the time the House rises in August, and will he undertake that the Estimates will be presented before we rise?
§ Mr. CHAMBERLAINI think it would be premature to have any presumption about the time this House will rise.
§ Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYAs the Prime Minister has undertaken that the Supplementary Estimates required would be presented before we rise, may I ask if that can possibly be carried out?
§ Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am not familiar with the pledge which the Prime Minister gave, and I think I had better leave it as it stands. I have no reason to doubt that any statement which the Prime Minister made holds good for all time, or at any rate for as long a time as he himself may hold good for.
§ Major HORE-BELISHADoes the right hon. Gentleman, speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, think it is fair to treat so cynically the emphatic pledge which was given by the Prime Minister on this subject? [HON. MEMBERS: "Oh, oh!"]
