HC Deb 17 December 1925 vol 189 c1599
25. Mr. GREENALL

asked the Minister of Pensions whether, seeing that a parent in receipt of a dependant's pension has to complete a life certificate on which it has to be stated if the husband or wife, as the case may be, is alive, he will arrange that on the death of a pensioner in receipt of a parent's pension the surviving parent shall be notified, so that the pension is transferable to the survivor?

Major TRYON

The only case in which a life certificate on the lines suggested has to be completed are those in which a separate award has been made to each parent, but a combined payment is made to one of them for the sake of convenience. In such eases it is the practice on the death of the parent who receives the combined payment to continue the survivor's own pension without application. In other cases the position is as stated by me in the reply to the hon. Member for West Toxteth on the 10th instant.
