Mr. ROBERT WILSONasked the Minister of Labour whether, having regard to the exceptional distress arising out of long-continued unemployment at Jarrow-on-Tyne and Hebburn, he will consider the advisability of relaxing the stringency of the regulations issued to Employment Exchanges in those towns in connection with the administration of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1924, Section 3 (c)?
§ Mr. BETTERTONThe condition to which the hon. Member refers is a statutory one, and in administering it the 440 Minister is largely guided by the recommendations of local committees who have a full knowledge of the circumstances. I should be glad to enquire into any specific case.
