asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what were the duties of and the salary paid to the Financial Controller of the British Empire Exhibition who was appointed by the Treasury; whether this officer had any control over the salaries paid to other officials; and what was the number of officials in receipt of salaries and/or emoluments that averaged £1,000 a year or more on the pay roll of the British Empire Exhibition on the 31st July, 1924, and the 31st July, 1925, respectively?

The Financial Controller of the British Empire Exhibition had charge of the financial business of the exhibition. He was appointed to strengthen the financial administration of the exhibition at the request of His Majesty's Government, as foreshadowed in Command Paper 2354 of 1925. His salary was at the rate of £3,000 per annum. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the last part of the question, the number was 13 in each case.
