HC Deb 02 December 1925 vol 188 cc2209-10
29. Mr. HARDIE

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the dispute in the Scottish shale field is placing a great financial burden upon the local parish councils concerned by payment of poor relief; and whether the Government have taken any steps to bring about an immediate settlement?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Sir John Gilmour)

I have been asked to reply. I am aware that the effect of the dispute may be to place an increased financial burden upon certain parish councils. The Ministry of Labour has been in constant touch with the parties concerned, who know that the services of the Ministry are immediately available when required. A conference of parties interested in the dispute is to be held in Glasgow to-morrow.
