HC Deb 01 December 1925 vol 188 cc2025-6
36. Mr. LIVINGSTONE

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether his attention has been drawn to the prevalence of illegal trawling near the island of Barra; and whether he will take whatever steps are possible to prevent this practice?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Three local complaints of illegal trawling off Barra have recently been received by the Fishery Board for Scotland, and have been investigated. No evidence of illegal fishing in these instances was forthcoming, but the area in question will continue to receive close attention from the fishery cruisers.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that if an English trawler gets in sight of the coast, it is the offence of illegal trawling at once?
