HC Deb 06 August 1925 vol 187 c1530
18. Colonel DAY

asked the Minister of Health if his attention has been drawn to the recent discovery by Dr. A. J. Cope-land of a new anœsthetic which will serve as an alternative to cocaine; and if he has considered whether this new drug has any toxic properties which bring it within the scope of the Dangerous Drugs Act?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have been asked to reply. I am not aware of any such discovery by Dr. Copeland, but he recently made an investigation into the properties and effects of psicaine, a cocaine substitute prepared by German chemists, the results of which were published in the medical press. A caution as to the supply and use of the drug has been issued through the pharmaceutical press.
