§ 48. Sir ROBERT HUTCHISONasked the Prime Minister whether the British Government has agreed to allow France the right to cross the demilitarised zone at her own discretion in the event of a Polish-German conflict?
§ Mr. McNEILLI would refer the hon. Member to the correspondence between His Majesty's Government and the French Government, which has been presented to Parliament (Cmd. 2435)— especially No. 8 of that Paper—and which contains all that His Majesty's Government have agreed to on this point.
§ Sir R. HUTCHISONMay I ask how the Command Paper is reconciled with the letter of the 8th June from M. Briand to the Foreign Secretary, in which he says the Courts allow France to exercise her right of moving across the Rhineland in certain instances, and was not that published freely in the Paris newspapers of the 29th of last month?
§ Mr. McNEILLI know nothing about the Paris newspapers, and care less. I cannot say how the two papers referred to are reconciled, but no doubt they are.
§ Captain GARRO-JONESArising out of the reference to the correspondence that has been laid before the House, is the right hon. Gentleman aware that neither France, Germany nor the Foreign Secretary understands what that correspondence means?
§ Mr. McNEILLNo, Sir, I am not aware of all that.
