HC Deb 30 April 1925 vol 183 cc307-8
40. Mr.T.THOMSON

asked the Minister of Health the total number of apprentices in the building trade that have been enrolled under the schemes for the augmentation of skilled labourers in the building trades instituted since the 1924 Housing Act was passed?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The Building Industry Committee, who are advising me on matters relating to the augmentation of the skilled ranks of the building industry, are not yet in a position to furnish the information required. The committee are, however, endeavouring to obtain Returns for the period ending 30th June, and they hope that when these Returns have been received full information on this matter will be available.

Mr. THOMSON

Meanwhile, is the right hon. Gentleman stimulating local authorities to move in the direction of the augmentation of labour on these lines?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, I have asked local authorities to make it a condition of their contracts.
