HC Deb 08 October 1924 vol 177 cc509-10
54. Mr. EDMUND HARVEY

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he will consider the advisability of scheduling the Roman camps at Cawthorne, near Pickering, under the powers given him by the Ancient Monuments Protection Act?

Mr. JOWETT

Unless in cases of immediate urgency, my Department awaits recommendations from the Ancient Monuments Boards before scheduling monuments. I am not aware that there is any need to depart from this practice in the case of the Roman Camps at Cawthorne. I have no doubt, however, that the Camps will be recommended for scheduling in due coarse.
