HC Deb 02 October 1924 vol 177 cc292-3
11. Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that petrol is now cheaper than in pre-War days, that tyres last four times longer than in pre-War days, he can see his way to reduce the price of taxi-cab fares to pre-War prices?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for HOME AFFAIRS (Mr. Rhys Davies)

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the replies given on the 28th February and the 6th and 27th March. The general position has not changed materially since then.

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Is it the policy of the hon. Gentleman's Department to encourage profiteering at the public expense, or is it done at the dictate of the trade unions?
