asked the Horne Secretary whether he is aware that nearly 500 German music-hall performers have obtained permission to appear in England shortly; and whether, in view of the prevailing unemployment, this matter can be reconsidered?

I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; the second part does not, therefore, arise. Only five permits under the Aliens' Order, to enable German music-hall artistes to work in Great Britain, have been issued during the last 17 months, and these permits have been for short periods.
