HC Deb 28 May 1924 vol 174 c383
1. Mr. LUMLEY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if any representations have been received from the Egyptian Government as to the futu[...] command of the Egyptian Army; and what reply has been returned?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Ponsonby)

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative; the latter part, therefore, does not arise.

Mr. LUMLEY

Has the attention of the Under-Secretary been drawn to an answer given by the Egyptian Prime Minister [...] few days ago, in the Chamber of Deputies, to the effect that he would no longer continue to tolerate British officers in command of the Egyptian Army?

Mr. PONSONBY

No, Sir, I have not seen that statement.
