65. Mr. EDMUND HARVEYasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he has had any further communications with the authorities of the British Empire. Exhibi- 33 tion and the other parties concerned with a view to insisting on satisfactory labour conditions being observed; and whether he is now satisfied that such conditions will be maintained for the various classes of workers employed at the exhibition?
§ Mr. LUNNI have had several discussions during the past week with various parties concerned with the conditions of employment at the British Empire Exhibition, and I am glad to he able to inform the hon. Member that there appears to he every likelihood of the setting up of a representative works council, which will be in a position to investigate any complaints which may be made, and which, I trust, will be able to dispose of them in a manner satisfactory to all parties.
§ Mr. R. MORRISONWill the proposed works council cover the catering trade?
§ Mr. LUNNAt the first meeting we had a guarantee or assurance from Messrs. Lyons that they will be represented.
