Mr. ORMSBY-GOREasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the elected members of the Legislative Council of Jamaica have decided to reduce the amount of preference given by Jamaica to imports, and especially on Lancashire cotton goods, from Great Britain on account of the reduction in the amount of preference on West Indian sugar proposed in the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Budget statement; and whether it is his intention to require the Governor to use his reserve powers to compel Jamaica to continue preference to Great Britain at the current amounts?
Mr. THOMASI have seen a Press report to a similar effect, but no resolution of the Legislative Council has yet reached me.
