§ 10. Mr. ERSKINEasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what number of aliens or persons of foreign extraction have been summoned or arrested for various breaches of the law during the last 12 months; and what number of convictions have been registered against such persons and at what cost to the State?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Arthur Henderson)There are no Returns from which the information asked for could be obtained. I would, however, refer the hon. Member to the answer given to the hon. Member for Windsor (Mr. A. A. Somerville) on 14th February showing that, of the 9,455 prisoners under sentence in England and Wales, 117 were aliens; and of the 1,820 prisoners in Scotland, 19 were aliens.
§ Dr. SPEROIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that all these questions relating to persons of foreign extraction are part of the campaign directed to bring into discredit the British pledge and signature given on naturalisation papers?
