SIMONasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the period of the life of a working-class family when the children are growing up is the period when house room is most urgently needed and is also the period when, owing to the cost of maintaining the children, the father can least afford the 418 rent of an adequate house; and whether, in view of this, he is prepared to consider granting any new housing subsidy in such a form as to give an abatement of rent to fathers of large families?
§ Mr. WHEATLEYI have carefully considered the suggestion made by the hon. Member, but I am unable to adopt it as a basis of the housing subsidy.
