HC Deb 10 March 1924 vol 170 c1903
102. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the First Commissioner of Works, in view of the large number of disabled ex-service trainees in the electrical industry who are unemployed and the difficulty experienced by the Industrial Training Department of the Ministry of Labour in placing these men, whether he is aware that the electrical Department of His Majesty's Office of Works have not yet engaged any electrical trainees; and, in these circumstances, will he now give preference to these men in any vacancies that may arise?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Jowett)

I understand that there are less than 20 unemployed disabled ex-service trainees in the electrical industry in this country. In view of the fact that reductions in the electrical staff of my Department have been taking place, the possibility of employing this class of men has not arisen, but in the event of any additional men being required the claims of the trainees will not be overlooked.
