HC Deb 10 March 1924 vol 170 c1898
35. Brigadier-General MAKINS

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the contemplated extinction of the Kalifate by the Turks, he will consider the desirability of issuing a statement of the fact for the information of our Moslem subjects and to avoid any misconceptions which may react on public tranquillity in the different parts of the Empire?

The PRIME MINISTER

His Majesty's Government are not entitled, either on political or religious grounds, to comment on, or interfere in any way in a matter in which their policy has consistently been, and will remain, one of complete disinterestedness.
