SOMERVILLEasked the Prime Minister whether, in view of his statement that the Government faces the unemployment problem with the idea of putting the men back into their own work, he proposes to carry out this principle in all shipbuilding centres to which any part of the so-called cruiser programme may not be allotted; and, if so, whether he can state how the Government proposes to provide work suitable to such unemployed skilled men?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThe aim of the Government is to stimulate in every practicable way the revival of trade, which will create a demand for new tonnage. That was the statement I made.
